ABOUT KAJOL:

Kajol is a cute young lady with magnetic eyes. She could make everyone fall at her feet with her big, brown eyes. This beauty was born on 5th August, 1975 in Altamount road, Mumbai and was named Kajol Mukerjee. This 5’4” tall lady was born to Shomu Mukerjee and Tanuja (actress). She also has a sister called Tanisha who has taken part in some television programs.
Kajol is also the cousin of the now famous actress Rani Mukerjee. Kajol has been in the modeling field too. She entered the film industry in the year 1992. She has acted in a number of super hit movies pairing with Shah Ruk Khan. This young girl was married to the famous actor Ajay Devgan on 24th February, 1999 after which she temporarily gave rest to her acting profession thereby concentrating much on her family. She has also got a daughter named Nyasa.she reads lots of books as much as she can and she doesnt watch movies a lot.

Kajol once said that

"Actually I'm not a movie buff basically. I'm not the kind of person who watches a lot of films so you're talking to the wrong person. I read a lot of books, so I'm more into reading than I'm into watching movies."

but after her marriage to ajay..

They said her marriage to Ajay Devgan would put her out of the running. But Kajol may do that all on her own.

Her mother, Tanuja, is a former screen siren. Her aunt, Nutan, is one of the most famous actresses of all time. Shobana Samarth, her grandmother, helped establish Hindi cinema as a force to be reckoned with. But Kajol, widely acknowledged as one of the most talented actresses ever to cross the Indian screen, more than lives up to their example.

Alas, she herself doesn't particularly agree. When asked how she rates herself as an actress, she replies: " 1, maybe 2, on a scale of 10." "I can’t accept situations I am uncomfortable in. Like I can’t get myself to do scenes or say lines I'm not convinced about. I’m troubled by anything that goes against the grain of my personality, and it’s very difficult for me to portray an emotion that I don’t understand." When asked, "But isn’t good acting about convincingly portraying qualities you don’t possess or agree with?", she replies: "Exactly. That’s precisely why I keep saying that I’m not a great actress. No matter how hard I try, I never manage to get into the skin of a character completely. There are always elements of my personality that leak into my characters." Adoring fans are baffled by this, along with repeated assertions that she doesn't really like movies, doesn't take acting very seriously, and will quit the moment the gig begins to bore her.

Sadly, that moment may have come. After her smashing success in Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, a performance for which she took the Filmfare Award for Best Actress, Kajol has no new projects planned. One tentative possibility is Aditya Chopra's next film, opposite Shahrukh Khan -- a pairing that, boasting smash hits like Baazigar, Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Karan Arjun, and now K3G -- will go down in history as one of the most loved in Hindi cinema's history.

But rumors of the Chopra film, while tantalizing, may be mere wishful thinking. Her recent miscarriage, chronicled with heartbreaking attention by the press, suggests she wishes to start a family -- and in Bollywood, real-life mothers rarely (if ever) play heroines. Gossip also suggests that her husband, actor Ajay Devgan, is threatened by her on-screen chemistry with Shahrukh -- a frustrating obstacle for fans hungry for more. Kajol herself explains her decision thus: "I am a little sick of Bollywood, and want to exit gracefully. There are only that many different roles that you can do in Bollywood. How many times can you keep doing the same thing? Anyway, the industry is too chaotic for me to continue. There is an exciting world out there waiting to be explored, a world away from the movies. Even if I am doing one film at a time, it takes up at least half the month."

Kajol is a self-confessed book addict. "Reading is my sole obsession in life. Actually, it is beyond an obsession. It has become a need. Sometimes, it gets so bad that if I am in the bathroom with nothing to read, I start reading the back of shampoo bottles!" She prefers futuristic fiction and romance novels, and may use the freed-up time to fulfill her longstanding dream to write a novel -- preferably a Mills & Boon, the British version of Harlequin romance. "With a Mills & Boon, I'll know it's gonna have a happy ending. I hate morbid books."

Aside from fabulous acting, Kajol is most noted for her grumpy relationship with the press. She explains her "firebrand" reputation thusly: "See, I've always been a confident person. Out here the term firebrand is often wrongly used. An intelligent person is often labelled a firebrand. I'm well-read, intelligent. So why should I try to hide it. If that makes some people uncomfortable, it's their problem. At the same time, if someone gives me wrong vibes, I won't ignore them. If I dislike a person, I don't hide it. I rather be open about it than bitch behind their back."

Such honesty hardly endears her to all: "The industry wallas have long thought it and now Shahrukh has said it. The general seething feelings about Kajol ever since she joined the industry ten years ago, was put into words by Shahrukh when at a recent award ceremony Kajol passed trademark rude remarks about Lagaan and Dil Chahta Hai bagging most of the trophies whereas K3G winning only one and that to to Kajol. Shahrukh quickly covered up his co-star's misbeaviour by remarking that "Yeah, Kajol is badly behaved but she is a fabulous actress and a pleasure to work with." The statement obviously contains more negative info about Kads than a positive one... There is no one left in the industry who hasn't been a victim of Kajol's misdemeanour, from Juhi to Rakesh Roshan."

A Dream Come True
An Exclusive On The Ajay-Kajol Wedding

She was glowing like a bulb, radiant and luminous in her beauty. Chanting her marital vows, loving every single moment of the occasion. Her dream was turning to reality. She had every reason to look like the happiest bride in the world. And he? He was loving every bit of it too. Only he seemed a little nervous, a little hassled. After all, he was biding adieu to his much-loved bachelorhood.

The 24th of February, 1999 witnessed the culmination of Ajay Devgan and Kajol Mukherjee's five-year-old long courtship as they tied the knot in a simple family wedding held on the terrace of Ajay's plush residence.

Just when the entire industry and the media world waited with bated breath expecting it to be one of the most lavish ceremonies to be held this side of town, it turned out to be quite a personal affair, where just about a hundred people were invited. Only the two families (both have big families), and very close friends of Ajay's and Kajol's were part of the celebration.

What was most amazing was that except for the Bachchan family, i.e. Amitabh, Jaya and Abhishek, there weren't any actors or actresses present. However, there were a few directors and filmmakers who made it to the occasion. Rahul Rawail, the man who launched Kajol in Bekhudi and of course her best pal Karan Johar, the director of the latest mega-hit Kuch Kuch Hota Hai were present. Amongst the others present was Kajol's cousin Sharbani Mukherjee. Strangely, Kajol's other cousin, Rani was missing.

Initially, since the media was informed that the wedding venue was to be a gurudwara in Juhu, many press cameras were seen crowding at that venue. There were many Ajay-Kajol fans ardently waiting for a glimpse of their favourite young couple. But sadly, both, the press and the crowd were left high and dry since the venue was changed at the last moment. Two reasons for that: One, that Ajay's grandmother passed away a few days earlier. Thus it couldn't be a grand occasion. And two, both the families knew that since the venue was publicly declared earlier, there would be huge crowds that wouldn't be able to be managed later. So, the wisest decision was to change the venue at the last moment and keep it secret.

One couldn't describe Kajol's happiness as she was going through the rituals to become Mrs. Ajay Devgan. Mom Tanuja and sister Tanisha (who flew down from Australia, where she's studying, for the occasion) too looked very happy for Kajol. Definitely the fact that Kads would not live in Usha Kiran anymore bothered the mother. But marriage and parting is a bittersweet fact of every girl's parents' life.

After the marriage ceremony was over, there was a small pleasant party on the same terrace. Simple but delicious food, soft music and softer people... The party went on till night and evrybody went home late.
